Japanese Craftsmanship
Presage presents a uniquely Japanese aesthetic to the world.
In particular, the uniqueness of the materials of its dials cannot be expressed
without the advanced techniques and commitment of craftsmen. The Made in Japan quality reflects Seiko’s legacy in watchmaking as well as the techniques and passion of craftsmen.
The Presage collection has long been a showcase of Japanese artistry and Seiko’s mastery of mechanical watchmaking, with truly unique timepieces featuring dials crafted in enamel, urushi lacquer, Shippo enamel, and Arita porcelain. Today, Seiko introduces a new creation in the Presage Classic Series with an enamel dial, fusing Japanese artisanal techniques with the refined elegance of a tonneau-shaped dress watch.
This new timepiece stands out as the only tonneau-shaped model in the current Presage lineup. Its exquisite enamel dial offers remarkable depth and beauty, creating a rare harmony between a centuries-old Japanese craft and contemporary watchmaking.
The watch’s exceptional dial is crafted by master artisan Mitsuru Yokosawa and Kazunori Uchiyama, who refined his skills under Yokosawa’s guidance. Their mastery of enamel work ensures a pristine white finish made to endure for generations to come. Creating an enamel dial requires extraordinary precision as well as adaptability in the face of different conditions; this includes adjusting the glaze composition to suit variations in temperature and humidity.
The Roman numerals and the sub-dial at the six o’clock position draw inspiration from the Timekeeper, Seiko’s first pocket watch, introduced in 1895. The Roman numerals evoke a timeless charm while maintaining excellent legibility, and the markings around the outer edge of the dial, designed to resemble railway tracks, accentuate its classical character. The pristine white of the enamel dial contrasts with the blued watch hands, which further enhance its beauty. The tips of the minute and seconds hands are bent slightly toward the dial to bring them closer to the markings, enhancing legibility when reading the time.
The watch has a dual-curved sapphire glass that enhances legibility while complementing the barrel-shaped case design. The elegant five-row bracelet features gently curved links that sit comfortably on the wrist, with the second and fourth rows polished to add a refined touch.
The watch is powered by the Caliber 6R5H, which incorporates a 24-hour sub-dial at the six o’clock position and delivers a power reserve of three full days, or 72 hours.
