The year 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of the Seiko diver’s watch. Since creating Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965, Seiko has continuously advanced in diver’s watchmaking to meet the demands of professional divers worldwide.
Seiko’s first diver’s watch pursued reliability and safety, paving the way for many future innovations. In 1968, the company released a high-beat, 300m air-diving model, meeting the global standard for the time. In 1975, Seiko launched the world’s first 600m-water resistant model for saturation diving and used a robust titanium case, earning the trust of professional divers.
Since then, Seiko has continued to combine its unique technology and expertise to create numerous innovative diver’s watches that have been loved by adventurers and explorers, proving their reliability in harsh environments around the globe.
Based on historical models reflecting Seiko’s significant milestones, three new 60th-anniversary limited editions demonstrate how the Seiko diver’s watch has evolved in both functionality and design.
Powerful dial design featuring the wave mark
The wave mark, a symbol of the Seiko diver’s watch, is a testament to high reliability and exceptional technology. This mark is engraved on the case backs of all Seiko diver’s watches. Inspired by the wave mark, a dynamic, embossed pattern reminiscent of the rough sea is applied to the dial. Its powerful design captures the force of crashing whitecaps.
Design based on heritage
The silver-dialed model pays homage to Seiko’s first diver’s watch from 1965. The bezel features a refined gray color, enhancing the sense of unity with the case and elevating the luxurious quality of the design.
New clasp with improved functionality, comfort, and appearance
An updated clasp, which allows a 15mm adjustment range, can be easily extended or shortened in six 2.5mm increments by pressing side buttons. This ensures a comfortable fit, adapting to changes in wrist size caused by diving pressure or the weather.
Each watch is powered by one of Seiko’s latest in-house movements, Caliber 6R55, which has a power reserve that extends to 72 hours, or three full days. This marks the first time that Caliber 6R55 has appeared in the Prospex collection. The new watches are further enhanced to ensure water resistance to 300m, a first for the Prospex collection’s non-saturation diver’s watches. A change in the location of the date window from the three o’clock position to the space between four and five o’clock now allows a more symmetrical design and more space to be filled with Lumibrite, ensuring high legibility even in dark conditions.
